Chelsea, Newcastle United linked with Stanislav Lobotka

Chelsea and Newcastle United are interested in acquiring the services of 28-year-old Napoli midfielder Stanislav Lobotka.

According to a report by Il Mattino, Chelsea and Newcastle United want to sign Stanislav Lobotka ahead of next season. The 28-year-old midfielder is one of those Napoli players who has attracted a lot of attention of late.

Napoli have managed to win the Serie A after decades, and quite a few of their players caught the eyes of Premier League clubs during this incredible run. Lobotka played a key role in the Partenopei’s historic run in the league. And, he is on the radar of some of the biggest clubs in England.

Lobotka moved to Napoli back in the winter of 2020, and the 28-year-old has gone from strength to strength since joining the Italian giants. And, he has been absolutely sensational in the ongoing season. The Slovakia international has featured in 46 matches and has been on the pitch for over 3,700 minutes.

The former Celta de Vigo midfielder also has two goal contributions. He has been a rock in front of their defence and he has also contributed to their attacking game with pinpoint ball distribution. His performances have attracted interest from Chelsea and Newcastle United.

The Blues have spent a fortune post their takeover. However, the results on the pitch have not improved. They have had a disappointing season and will once again shift their focus towards the market to improve their situation.

They want to incorporate a defensive midfielder ahead of next season and have their eyes on Lobotka. While they are looking to extend the contract of N’Golo Kante, they want to have a cover for him as Kante has struggled with injuries of late. Adding the 28-year-old Napoli midfielder will also help them eventually replace the French World Cup winner.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United also have their eyes on the Serie A winner. They want to further bolster their squad ahead of next season as they look to take the next step. Eddie Howe is keen on having another world-class midfielder in his ranks.

He believes the 28-year-old will add more balance to their team. Lobotka’s presence will make them a much better defensive outfit and their attackers could push harder. However, it won’t be easy for Newcastle to acquire his services with Chelsea in the race.
