Newcastle United are interested in acquiring the services of 28-year-old Atletico Madrid midfielder Rodrigo De Paul.

According to Fichajes, Newcastle United are keen on having Rodrigo De Paul in their ranks. The 28-year-old has not had the best of times since joining Atletico Madrid a few seasons back. So he could be on the move in the summer.

De Paul joined the Spanish club back in the summer of 2021 from Udinese Calcio. The Rojiblancos paid around €40 million for the services of the 28-year-old. He has featured in over 80 matches for Deigo Simeone’s team and also has 15 goal contributions.

However, people at the club feel he has not done enough. The 28-year-old has not met the expectations everyone had when they brought him to the club. While he has been sensational at times, the Argentina international has failed to be consistent enough.

In the ongoing season, De Paul has been involved in 34 matches and has 9 goal contributions. While he has been on the pitch for over 2,000 minutes, the 28-year-old is no longer a guaranteed starter for Simeone’s team.

However, the Argentine international did have an exceptional FIFA World Cup 2022. He played an important role in helping Argentina clinch the World title. And, the 28-year-old is surely on the radar of quite a few clubs from across Europe.

His contract with Atletico Madrid runs until the summer of 2026. However, he is likely to be on the move in the summer. Simeone will have no problems letting him leave. But that will happen only if they receive a decent amount in return.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United are keen on having the 28-year-old in their ranks. The Magpies have done great in the ongoing season. They are likely to feature in the Champions League next season. And, their manager Eddie Howe is keen on strengthening his squad to be competitive in both the Premier League and UCL.

His priority is to add a few midfielders to the mix. He wants to have another world-class midfielder in his ranks and De Paul could surely help his cause. Howe is keen on having someone with physical presence and great defensive awareness and the 28-year-old seems to be a great fit.

The Magpies do have the financial power to meet the demands of Atletico Madrid. As a result, it will be interesting to see if they can manage to land him at the club ahead of next season.
