Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa are interested in signing 26-year-old Villarreal defender Pau Torres at the end of the season.

Pau Torres has been a key player for Villarreal, and his performances have attracted the attention of a number of English clubs this summer. A report from Fichajes claims that Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur could look to sign the player at the end of the season.

Tottenham need to bring a defensive reinforcement, and Torres could prove to be a quality acquisition. The 26-year-old is entering his peak years, and he could be a key performer for Tottenham in the coming seasons.

Cristian Romero is the only reliable defender at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium right now. Players like Davinson Sanchez and Eric Dier have been quite underwhelming this season, and Tottenham must look to bring him an upgrade on the two players.

Apart from being a reliable defender, Torres is excellent on the ball and his distribution skills will help Tottenham build from the back. The player has been linked with a move to the Premier League in the past as well. But it remains to be seen whether he can secure the transfer this time around.

The Spanish international will be out of contract in the summer of 2024. So it is fair to assume that Villarreal will be under pressure to cash in on him this summer. They will not want to lose the player as a free agent next year.

Alternatively, Torres could sign a new contract with the Spanish club and commit his long-term future to them. However, it seems unlikely given the interest from multiple clubs. Given his contract situation, the defender could be available for a reasonable price. He is valued at €45 million by transfermarkt.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa are looking to improve the score during the summer transfer window. They are currently pushing for European qualification under Unai Emery and will be better players to do well on multiple fronts next year. Emery needs to bring in a quality defender who will be an upgrade on Tyrone Mings next season.

Pau Torres seems like the perfect alternative and he could form a reliable defensive partnership alongside Ezri Konsa at the heart of Aston Villa’s defence. Both Aston Villa and Tottenham have the finances to tempt Villarreal into selling their prized prospect. But it remains to be seen where the Spaniard ends up.
