James Milner has reportedly rejected Everton’s overtures, as he chooses Brighton over Liverpool’s Bitter Premier League rivals.

According to Football Insider, Everton have had their offer rejected by Liverpool veteran James Milner. The Toffees wanted to sign the experienced star on a free transfer. But the Reds’ misdiwlswe has chosen to join Brighton instead of Liverpool’s bitter Premier League rivals.

A few weeks ago, there were considerable doubts about whether Everton would remain in the Premier League beyond the summer. The Toffees have endured a terrible season as they fought relegation in consecutive seasons.

While they secured a vital win in the latest gameweek, the Toffees are still far from securing their Premier League status. They also have the FFP problem looming large on their heads, which may prevent them from making significant signings in the summer.

That said, it is no surprise to see Everton dipping into the free agent pool, with some key players targetted to arrive. One player they have already suffered rejection from is James Milner. It was wild to think the Liverpool veteran would join their bitter Premier League rivals. But he has other plans.

Everton reportedly made a lucrative offer to the 37-year-old to join them in the summer on a Bosman move. But Milner has rejected those overtures as he inches closer to joining Brighton and Roberto De Zerbi for next season.

Liverpool are set to revamp their midfield options ahead of the summer, with several players likely to arrive. One of those could be Brighton star Alexis Mac Allister, while several more high-profile names feature on their list.

Milner may have wanted to prolong his career in Merseyside but could not negotiate a new deal with Liverpool. Fans will seem relieved at the news of the Liverpool veteran rejecting their bitter Premier League rivals ahead of the summer as he chooses a similar path to Adam Lallana by joining Brighton.

Lallana reportedly convinced Milner to join Brighton, which may prove a good move for all parties concerned. As for Everton, they will have to look at other options. But some may have to question their wisdom about targeting the Liverpool veteran in the first place.
