Aston Villa are reportedly interested in signing Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha, a target for Manchester United and Tottenham.

And his performances have attracted the attention of clubs like Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur as well. A report from Football Insider claims that Aston Villa are confident of winning the race for his signature.

Palhinha has been a key player for Fulham and the London outfit will not want to sell him easily. However, Aston Villa have the financial resources to tempt them. Furthermore, a move to the West Midlands club would be a step up in the player’s career.

Aston Villa have shown impressive form under new manager Unai Emery, and they are currently pushing for European qualification. Palhinha wants to play at a higher level and a move to Aston Villa would be a step up in his career.

Villa need to find a quality partner for Douglas Luiz, and the Portuguese international would be a superb acquisition. He will add defensive cover and drive to the Aston Villa midfield. The 27-year-old is one of the best tacklers in the league and he has more successful tackles than any other midfielder in the Premier League this season.

Emery is looking to put together a squad capable of challenging for major trophies, and Palhinha would certainly help Villa improve. Meanwhile, Manchester United are also looking to bring in a quality partner for Brazilian international Casemiro. And the Portuguese has been identified as a potential option.

Manchester United are certainly a far bigger club compared to Aston Villa. And the opportunity to play for them could prove to be hard to turn down for the midfielder. On the other hand, Tottenham Hotspur are keeping tabs on the midfielder as well.
