Wolves could reject an approach from Arsenal for Pedro Neto in the summer as Mikel Arteta plans on rekindling his interest.
According to Football Insider, Wolves would reject any bid coming from Arsenal for Pedro Neto. The Midlands club plans to keep the Portuguese attacker on board and help Julen Lopetegui in the next window to build his squad.
Wolves could eventually escape relegation at the end of May due to the work done by Julen Lopetegui. The former Sevilla boss came in when they seemed destined for the drop. There are also his players’ efforts, but not so much from Pedro Neto.
The Portuguese attacker has only recently returned from another serious injury, his second in as many years. Despite the glaring concern over his immediate fitness levels, Arsenal are reportedly ready to rekindle their interest in the winger.
Mikel Arteta wanted Neto last summer and made multiple enquiries. The Gunners were keen on the Portuguese attacker but were reportedly pushed back by Wolves’ £50 million demand. Arsenal did not want to pay that much and were somewhat vindicated of their decision following another long layoff for the winger.
With Arsenal likely to keep searching for a new right winger, Neto’s name has emerged again. They have players like Moussa Diaby on their list but could view the Portuguese attacker as an alternative option. Arteta primarily wants someone to cover and compete with Bukayo Saka on the right side, something he misses in the current squad.
Neto was reportedly considered a viable option. But Wolves do not want to lose him so soon. The Portuguese attacker only signed a long-term deal in March 2022 and remains on their books until 2027. Hence, the Black Country outfit remain relaxed about his situation and will look to keep hold of the winger.
The report claimed that Wolves would reject any bid from Arsenal, who have retained an interest in Neto. The 23-year-old has shown plenty of promise with his performances with the Midlands club and remains on the radar of many clubs.
Considering his recent injury history, Arsenal making an offer would surprise many. However, for now, one should consider Neto a contingency target, and the Gunners may not be serious about him. Hence, the club are unlikely to spend more of their time in this pursuit, but they might make a move if an opportunity arises.
