Newcastle United want to sign 30-year-old Inter Milan midfielder Marcelo Brozovic who is on the radar of Barcelona.

According to Daily Mail via Mundo Deportivo, Newcastle United are keen on having Marcelo Brozovic in their ranks ahead of next season. The 30-year-old has been on the radar of Barcelona for a while now. However, it seems the Magpies might beat them in the race for the services of the Inter Milan midfielder.

Brozovic joined Inter from Dinamo Zagreb back in the winter of 2015. He joined them on an initial 18-month loan which was made permanent in the summer of 2016. The Croatian international has since featured in over 300 matches for the Italian giants and he has also been involved in 68 goals.

The 30-year-old’s contract at the club runs until the summer of 2026. However, he could be on the move in the summer given the number of clubs that are interested in his services.

Barcelona have been interested in the Croatian international for a while now. They did try signing him in the winter but couldn’t strike a deal with Inter Milan. The Catalan giants believe he could fill the big boots of Sergio Busquets who is in the twilight of his career.

While they still consider him to be an important transfer target, Brozovic is no longer a priority for them. Barcelona have financial issues to take care of before they can shift their focus towards signing players. And, the Catalan giants can’t really present an offer close to the reported €35 million bid that Newcastle are set to make for the Croatian midfielder’s services.

The Magpies are pushing for a Champions League spot in the ongoing season and are likely to accomplish their objective. Eddie Howe has done wonders with Newcastle of late and he wants a few more reinforcements to take the next step.

The Newcastle manager wants more depth in the centre of the park. He believes adding Brozovic will not only add experience but with it a lot of stability and composure to the centre of the park. As a result, they are willing to offer around €35 million for his services.
