Brighton & Hove Albion are reportedly interested in acquiring the services of veteran Liverpool midfielder James Milner.

According to a report by The Athletic, Liverpool midfielder James Milner could be on his way to Brighton and Hove Albion this summer. The Seagulls have been monitoring the 37-year-old’s situation at Anfield as he approaches the end of his contract. And talks are underway between the veteran midfielder and the Premier League top-four hopefuls.

The former England international has been a part of the Merseyside club since joining them from Manchester City back in the summer of 2015. He has been a great servant of the club and has racked up over 320 matches for the Reds. He has also been involved in 72 goals, having found the back of the net on 26 occasions and creating 46 goals for his teammates.

The 37-year-old midfielder is a versatile player who can feature in multiple roles. And despite his age, he still has a few years left in him. Milner’s versatility and experience make him a valuable asset to any Premier League club. And Brighton’s head coach Roberto De Zerbi is keen to bolster his squad ahead of next season.

The veteran midfielder’s leadership qualities and winning mentality could also prove to be invaluable for a team looking to establish themselves in the top half of the table. The 37-year-old has played a key role in Liverpool’s recent success, helping the Reds win the Premier League, Champions League, and Club World Cup during his time at the club.

However, with his contract set to expire this summer, Liverpool may be open to letting him go to free up some space in their wage bill. Brighton have shown that they are willing to invest in experienced players to strengthen their squad.

The Seagulls signed Adam Lallana on a free transfer from Liverpool in the summer of 2020. The midfielder has been a valuable addition to the squad. Milner could provide similar value to Brighton, with his wealth of experience and versatility making him an ideal signing for a club looking to improve.

If Milner does make the move to Brighton, he will be joining a team that has shown great improvement under De Zerbi’s guidance. The Premier League top-four hopefuls have been on a roll and will be looking to push on and compete for European qualification next term.

The 37-year-old’s addition could be just what they need to achieve that goal. However, they face competition from Burnley for his services. The Championship club have already secured promotion to the Premier League. And, their manager Vincent Kompany is keen on having his former teammate in their ranks. As a result, it will be interesting to see where the Liverpool veteran ends up playing his football next season.
