Manchester City are reportedly plotting a summer transfer raid on Premier League rivals Arsenal for Kieran Tierney.
Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney has struggled to hold down a regular starting spot at the North London club this season. And Manchester City are hoping to lure the £30 million-rated wide man to the Etihad Stadium according to a report from Football Insider.
The 25-year-old defender arrived at Arsenal with massive hype. But he has failed to live up to the expectations in the Premier League. The former Celtic defender was expected to develop into one of the best full-backs in English football.
However, Ukrainian international Oleksandr Zinchenko has now climbed above him in the pecking order. And the former Manchester City defender is the first-choice left-back at Arsenal, with fitness issues holding the Scot back.
Tierney will be hoping to get his career back on track, and a move away from Arsenal could be ideal for him. If Manchester City can provide him with regular first-team action, the opportunity to move to the Etihad Stadium will be quite attractive for the player.
Manchester City are one of the biggest clubs in the world, and they are certainly more capable of challenging for major trophies compared to Arsenal. Furthermore, Pep Guardiola’s side have the financial resources to agree on a deal with Arsenal as well. Apparently, the defender is valued at £30 million.
The Gunners have Nuno Tavares on their books as well. The left-back is currently out on loan and is expected to return to the North London club in the summer. Mikel Arteta will not be able to provide ample game time to three full-backs. So it would make sense for him to cash in on Tierney and invest the money into signing a quality central defender.
Arsenal have suffered because of that lack of depth in the central defensive department. Meanwhile, playing under a world-class coach like Pep Guardiola could help Tierney get his career back on track and regain his form and confidence.

Manchester City have had to use makeshift central defenders in the left-back position this season. So they should look to bring in a specialist option this summer. Tierney certainly has the talent and potential to play for a big club like Manchester City. But it remains to be seen whether the Premier League giants can unlock the potential of the Arsenal defender next season.
