Real Madrid forward Mariano is reportedly set to leave the club at the end of the season, with Leeds United interested in him.

Mariano Diaz has been linked with a move to the Premier League, with Leeds United keen on securing his services. A report from Defensa Central claims that the 29-year-old is not a key part of Carlo Ancelotti’s plans at Santiago Bernabeu and is unlikely to be offered an extension by Real Madrid.

His contract will expire on June 30, and the player has multiple offers on his table. However, he earns €4.5 million per season at the Spanish club, and his suitors will not be able to afford his wages apart from Leeds United, who are prepared to satisfy his economic demands.

Apart from his substantial wages, his performances have not been convincing either. It remains to be seen whether Leeds are prepared to take a gamble on him. The 29-year-old has been linked with West Ham United as well.

Leeds could certainly use more quality in the final third, and Mariano would be a useful option for them if he manages to hit top form. However, the Real Madrid attacker is 29 and is unlikely to get any better. Leeds should look to invest their money in a younger player with higher potential. Mariano could prove to be a bit of a gamble, and it would be an underwhelming signing.

The Whites will have to rejuvenate their attacking unit, especially with players like Patrick Bamford failing to impress this season. Signing a proven goalscorer should be a top priority for them.

Mariano has struggled for regular football during his time at Real Madrid. So he will hope to join a club where he will get ample game time. Leeds United can certainly provide him with that platform. So the opportunity to move to the Premier League will be an exciting option for the player.

There is no doubt that he has the physicality and technical ability to thrive in English football. But it remains to be seen whether he can adapt to the league quickly and make an immediate impact at Elland Road.

On top of that, Leeds United are far from securing safety in the Premier League. And they will have to preserve their status as a top-flight club if they want to attract players like Mariano. The Real Madrid attacker is unlikely to move to the Championship next season.
