David de Gea has divided opinions with his performance of the season, while Mike Maignan is a target for Manchester United.

David de Gea is a top-class shot-stopper on his day. But his distribution skills leave a lot to be desired. Manchester United are reportedly looking at other goalkeepers, and a report from Ben Jacobs claims that 27-year-old AC Milan star Mike Maignan is on their transfer wishlist.

Jacobs told Caught Offside, “Mike Maignan is not expected to leave Milan and is healthily contracted even if he doesn’t agree to new terms, but that’s another goalkeeper Erik ten Hag rates.”

The 27-year-old French international has firmly established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the world, and he has been outstanding in Serie A as well as the Champions League. Maignan’s heroics have helped AC Milan reach the UEFA Champions League semi-finals after more than a decade, and he will be hoping to guide them to European glory this season.

The 27-year-old has also established himself as the first-choice keeper for his country. There is no doubt that the French international would be an upgrade on De Gea.

Meanwhile, the Spaniard will be out of contract in the summer and he is yet to sign an extension with Manchester United. Time will tell whether the Red Devils are prepared to extend his stay at Old Trafford or bring in a quality replacement with a higher ceiling.

Manchester United have Dean Henderson on their books as well. But the English goalkeeper is expected to leave in the summer in search of regular playing time. Henderson has impressed with his loan spells in recent seasons, but he needs to play regularly at this stage of his career.

There is no doubt that David De Gea could still be an important player for Manchester United and the Red Devils will benefit from him staying at the club. His winning experience and leadership qualities could prove to be invaluable for the Manchester United dressing room.

Manager Erik ten Hag reportedly rates Maignan highly and it remains to be seen whether the Red Devils can convince AC Milan to sell the star goalkeeper. He is on a long-term contract at the Italian club and it is highly unlikely that Milan will sanction his departure anytime soon.
