Chelsea ready to offer short-term contract to Mason Mount to thwart Arsenal, Liverpool

Chelsea have reportedly formulated a new plan to keep Mason Mount beyond this season amid interest from Arsenal and Liverpool.

Mason Mount will be a free agent in the summer of 2024, and Chelsea will be under pressure to sell him if he does not renew his contract soon. A report from 90min claims that Chelsea are now prepared to offer him a short-term deal to negate the threat of his departure this summer.

Chelsea are willing to mull over the future of the 24-year-old in the coming months. But they want to secure his short-term future at the club first. Mount has been an important first-team player for Chelsea, and he is looking for a significant pay rise before he commits his long-term future to the club.

Chelsea’s desire to tie him down to a short-term contract might not align with the player’s interests. The 24-year-old is one of the best attacking midfielders in the league, and his departure will come as a major blow for the Blues. The England international is thought to be on the radar of clubs like Liverpool and Arsenal.

The last thing Chelsea would want is to lose one of their most important players to a direct Premier League rival. Mount could prove to be a quality acquisition for both Liverpool and Arsenal next season.

While Arsenal need to add more depth and quality in the final third, Liverpool will have to replace a number of players who are expected to leave in the summer. The Reds will be without Naby Keita, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain next season.

On the other hand, Arsenal have been overly reliant on Martin Odegaard for goals and creativity from the midfield. Mount has the potential to develop into a top-class player. And working with managers like Mikel Arteta and Jurgen Klopp will only help him develop further.

Chelsea must look to do everything in their power to keep him at the club for as long as possible. The Blues lack depth and quality in the middle of the park and do not have another midfielder with Mount’s skillset. The 24-year-old is the only player at the club who can chip in with goals and assists consistently. The Chelsea academy graduate is yet to hit his peak and will only get better with time.
