Barcelona will unlikely pursue Roberto Firmino this summer after ruling out a move for the 31-year-old Liverpool veteran.

According to a report by Spanish outlet MARCA, Roberto Firmino is not the subject of interest from Barcelona. The Catalan giants have ruled out a move for the 31-year-old Liverpool veteran heading into the summer transfer window. The latest update comes after the versatile attacker offered himself to Barcelona.

Roberto Firmino has etched his name in Liverpool folklore since joining Liverpool from Hoffenheim in July 2015. The Brazilian international has been Jurgen Klopp’s trusted lieutenant over the last eight years. And his presence in the final third brought the best out of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

The 31-year-old has also enjoyed a solid 2022/23 season thus far, injuries notwithstanding. And he has a solid record of 11 goals and five assists in 33 appearances thus far. But Firmino’s stint with Liverpool will end this summer when he leaves as a free agent. And such a situation has reportedly alerted Barcelona.

Recent reports claimed that Barcelona submitted an offer to the 31-year-old Liverpool veteran. And the supposed interest in the player is understandable, considering Xavi Hernandez does not have a backup for Robert Lewandowski in his squad. And with Barcelona struggling for goals, securing Firmino’s services will make sense.

Widespread reports have suggested that Firmino does not want to remain in the Premier League when he leaves Liverpool. And moving to Barcelona will help him continue at the top while still being in his element. But the report by MARCA paints a different story, suggesting the Brazilian offered himself to Barcelona.

The 31-year-old Liverpool veteran is evidently keen on joining Barcelona when he departs from Anfield. But the Catalan giants have turned down Firmino’s offer and will not pursue him this summer. The decision is perplexing, considering their never-ending financial woes.

The Blaugrana cannot afford to sign any player before balancing the books. So shelling out a transfer fee on a target is out of the question. With that in mind, pursuing Firmino’s signature would have been a sensible call. But Barcelona will seemingly not look to sign the Liverpool attacker.
