Newcastle United confident of signing Harvey Barnes and James Ward-Prowse

Newcastle United are positive about signing Harvey Barnes and James Ward-Prowse ahead of next season.

According to Football Insider, Newcastle United are keen on signing Harvey Barnes and James Ward-Prowse in the summer. The club is confident about landing the Premier League duo at the club. The Magpies have been doing wonders in the ongoing season. And, they are looking to further bolster their squad ahead of next season.

Barnes has been a part of Leicester City since his childhood days. The 25-year-old has gone up the ranks at the club and has been subject to multiple loan moves to gain first-team experience. He was promoted to the Foxes’ first team back in 2018 and has gone from strength to strength since.

As far as the ongoing season is concerned, he has featured in 34 matches and has 13 goal contributions. While he is an integral part of their first-team setup, the England international could be on the move in the summer if Leicester fail to survive in the English top flight.

Similar is the situation of Ward-Prowse. The 28-year-old has come up the ranks at Southampton and has established himself as one of their most important players. He has been the club captain for a while now. But, even his future is uncertain because of the Saints’ ongoing struggle.

They are currently bottom of the league and if they fail to survive in the Premier League, the Saints midfielder will look for a move elsewhere. He has featured in 39 matches and has been involved in 12 goals in the ongoing season.

Meanwhile, Newcastle who have been keen on the duo are positive about bringing them to the club in the summer. They have the financial power to make it happen. At this point in time, they are pushing for a Champions League spot. And, if they manage to secure a top-four spot, they will be an attractive destination for the duo.

The Magpies initially wanted to sign a striker on a priority basis. But, the red-hot form of Alexander Isak suggests that they will now focus on strengthening their midfield and adding more creativity to the centre of the park.

Eddie Howe has been keen on signing English experienced players of late. He has already signed Kieran Tripper, Dan Burn, Nick Pope, Matt Targett and Anthony Gordon in the past few windows. And, Howe is confident of bringing Barnes and Ward-Prowse to the club in the summer.
