Aston Villa are interested in acquiring the services of Manchester City duo Kyle Walker and Kalvin Phillips ahead of next season.
According to a report by Football Insider, Aston Villa are interested in signing Kyle Walker and Kalvin Phillips. The Manchester City duo’s future is uncertain as they have fallen down in the pecking order under Pep Guardiola. And, Villa are keen on a double swoop.
Unai Emery has done wonders since taking over the reins of Aston Villa. They were struggling in the first half of the season but things have taken a U-turn since the appointment of the Spanish manager. Villa are currently 6th in the league and are in contention for a European spot.
Despite the heroics of his team, Emery is keen on further strengthening it in the summer transfer window. He is looking to sign a new midfielder as well as a defender. The Spanish boss wants someone who can run the show in the centre of the park and a full-back who can help boost his defence.
The club have had internal talks about making a £55 million bid for the Manchester City duo. They are keen on signing Walker and Phillips. The 32-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at City of late. He has been one of the most important players for Guardiola over the last few seasons.
But, things haven’t gone according to plan in the ongoing season. In the initial phase of the season, he played a major role but of late, he hasn’t had much game time. Walker has featured in a total of 27 matches and has just over 1800 minutes in the ongoing season.
The 32-year-old hasn’t had much of an impact and might look for a move away from the club in the summer. He has played at Villa in the past and would love to work under Unai Emery. Meanwhile, Phillips is also on their radar.
The 27-year-old has hardly played a part in the ongoing season after a £42 million move that saw him join the defending champions from Leeds United. He has featured in a total of 15 matches and has been on the pitch for less than 400 minutes.
If City fails to promise him a better role for next season, the former Leeds midfielder might look for a move elsewhere. Villa believe acquiring the duo could help them take the next step under Emery. And, as per the reports, City could be tempted by a bid in the region of £55 million for the duo.
As a result, it will be interesting to see if Villa manage to land two of their primary targets ahead of next season.
