Newcastle United are reportedly keen on signing 27-year-old English striker Ivan Toney from Brentford this summer.

Ivan Toney has been in splendid form in the Premier League this season, and his performances have caught the attention of the Magpies. A report from Fichajes claims that Newcastle United are looking to bring in a number of additions at the end of the season, and the 27-year-old striker is on their radar.

The former Newcastle United striker could be tempted to return to the club at the end of the season. But it remains to be seen whether the Magpies can agree on a fee with Brentford, who want €60 million for the player.

Toney will feel that he has unfinished business at Newcastle. The striker was allowed to leave the club back in 2018, and he has developed into a top-class goalscorer since then. Toney has 19 goals across all competitions this season, and he could prove to be an outstanding acquisition for Newcastle.

The Magpies are currently pushing for Champions League qualification, and they will be an attractive destination for most players if they manage to finish in the top four. The player has been linked with Tottenham as well.

Newcastle have the resources to compete with any club in world football, and they will be hoping to push for the Premier League title next season. They will need to bring in a quality goal scorer in order to challenge the elite clubs. So Toney certainly seems like the perfect addition.

The 27-year-old is at the peak of his career and is well-settled in the Premier League. He could make an immediate impact at the English club next season, a potential betting ban notwithstanding. Toney certainly deserves to play at a higher level and the opportunity to play for a Champions League club could prove hard to turn down.

Newcastle have put in outstanding performances this season. But they have drawn quite a few matches so far. They will need to bring in a reliable finisher in order to turn these draws into wins. Someone like Toney could make a big difference in the final third.

The striker has a contract with Brentford until the summer of 2025 and he is unlikely to come at a bargain. Toney is valued at €60 million by Brentford, who unsurprisingly want a premium for him. It remains to be seen whether Newcastle are prepared to pay up in the coming months.
