Premier League giants Manchester City will not stand in the way of 28-year-old wantaway star Aymeric Laporte.
According to a report by Tribal Football, Manchester City are ready to offload Aymeric Laporte in the summer. The 28-year-old has fallen down the pecking order and is desperate to leave the club ahead of next season. And, the Premier League giants have no intentions of standing in his way.
Laporte came through the ranks at Athletic Club and established himself as an integral part of the Spanish club’s first team before making a big-money move to Manchester City. The Spain international joined City back in the winter of 2018 for £57 million.
The 28-year-old became an integral part of their first team setup and was a regular feature under Pep Guardiola. He has featured in a total of 172 matches for the team in sky blue and has been involved in 16 goals during his time at the club.
The Spain international has played an important part in their success over the last few seasons. But, things have changed a lot of late. Laporte is no longer a regular at Manchester City. He has fallen way down in the pecking order.
Laporte has been involved in just 17 matches in the ongoing season and has been on the pitch for just under 1,400 minutes. The 28-year-old is desperate for more game time. And the £57 million signing is not happy sitting on the bench.
The fact that he has featured only twice in all competitions since February has added fuel to the fire. At times, Pep Guardiola has been forced to play four centre-backs in his back line due to injuries. And, even in those fixtures, the former Athletic Club centre-back has found himself on the bench.
Laporte’s contract at Manchester City runs until the summer of 2025. However, given the current circumstances, he is likely to part ways with City ahead of next season. And, as per the report, the club will not stand in his way. While they do want him to continue at the club, they are not going to force him to change his decision.
Like many other players who have left City in search of more game time, the 28-year-old could also be on his way out in the summer. And, there are quite a few clubs interested in acquiring his services.
