Trent Alexander-Arnold could emerge as a target for Barcelona in the summer as Xavi Hernandez eyes a different option at right-back.

According to Fichajes, Trent Alexander-Arnold is a target for Barcelona in the summer. The Blaugrana are eyeing a different option at right-back and would like to use their current stars in their natural position in the centre of defence.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has found his form in recent weeks following a difficult season under his belt. The €80 million-rated Liverpool defender has received plenty of criticism for his displays this season, as the Reds have shown defensive lapses throughout the campaign.

The defender has not had the best of support from his teammates while making the play. That has affected his overall game, as he has been unable to assert his influence in the usual way, thus letting teams exploit his position.

He has managed to revive his form in the last few weeks, grabbing an assist against Arsenal and another two against Leeds United on Monday. Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp holds the defender in high regard and considers him a key part of his squad.

There is no chance of transfer negotiations or entertaining offers for the €80 million-rated Liverpool defender. The Reds will not sell at any cost, yet here are the links to Barcelona, who have been interested in Alexander-Arnold since last summer.

Barcelona spent big on signing many players last summer, which included the arrival of Jules Kounde from Sevilla. The Frenchman has been predominantly used as a right-back under Xavi Hernandez, with fellow centre-back Ronald Araujo also filling in there occasionally.

While the duo has proven effective alongside Sergi Roberto, Xavi Hernandez wants a different option starting next season. The absence of proper right-backs at the club may cost them on both ends of the pitch, with Kounde not proficient in attacking the ball in the final third.

By how Alexander-Arnold plays, he can elevate the attacking quality of this Barcelona squad. Despite the report linking the €80 million-rated Liverpool defender to the Catalans, there is hardly any chance for this transfer to materialise.

For starters, Liverpool will unlikely entertain any offers, while Barcelona are in no position to offer a huge transfer fee. In the case of this story, certainly not the €80 million tag the defender may have on his head. Hence, this report can only fall under the rumour section, and both parties will brush it off without hesitation.
