Chelsea rival Real Madrid in Julian Alvarez pursuit

Chelsea are all set to square up against Real Madrid in the pursuit of 23-year-old Manchester City striker Julian Alvarez.

According to Fichajes, Chelsea and Real Madrid are interested in signing Julian Alvarez. The Manchester City forward’s future is uncertain, and he might look for a move elsewhere in the summer. Alvarez has done a great job in the limited time that he has been offered at City.

While the Argentina international was signed by Manchester City last winter, he joined ahead of the ongoing season. Since arriving at the club, Alvarez has been used as more of a rotational striker under Guardiola.

He has featured in 37 matches and has found the back of the net on 14 occasions. And the youngster also has four assists to his name. While his numbers in front of the goal are impressive, the 23-year-old has been on the pitch for just over 1,800 minutes.

The Argentina international is concerned about the limited game time. He is all set to have a conversation with the club as he seeks a more important role at the club. But, if City cannot find a solution the player might ask to leave despite having signed a contract extension a few weeks back.

A lot of top clubs across Europe are aware of the situation and would love to have Alvarez in their ranks. Real Madrid and Chelsea are two clubs keen on adding the 23-year-old to their squad ahead of next season.

Los Blancos want to sign a new number nine in the summer transfer window. They are looking to bring in a potential replacement for Karim Benzema. The Real Madrid captain is in the twilight of his career. And, Carlo Ancelotti is keen to have someone who can take over from their leading marksman.

Alvarez is a profile that could easily fit into the Real Madrid system. While he might not be a regular starter in the initial few seasons, the 23-year-old can eventually take over from Benzema. However, they will face competition from Chelsea.
