Sevilla are keen to sign Eric Bailly from Manchester United in the summer as the La Liga side eye a viable centre-half.
According to Fichajes, Eric Bailly has emerged as a target for La Liga giants Sevilla as they are keen to bolster their defensive ranks. Technical director Monchi wants to correct some of the mistakes made last summer. He could approach the Ivorian, with Manchester United likely to accept a lower bid.
Eric Bailly had the talent to feature for some of the biggest clubs, but he could only show his worth in glimpses while at Manchester United. Persistent injuries have been the biggest factor in the downfall of the player since his €38 million move.
After looking at his previous injury records, Erik ten Hag did not want to keep the 28-year-old. Marseille readily took him on a season-long loan move, with an obligation to buy at certain conditions. Considering his season, there is a chance of a return to Old Trafford and the clause not getting triggered.
Injury problems have followed the €38 million Manchester United star to Marseille, where he has made only 14 Ligue 1 appearances. There was also a lengthy suspension of five matches for the Ivorian. But since his return, the defender has mostly featured off the bench.
While things remain unclear about his future at Marseille, Manchester United could look to sell if the Ivorian returns in the summer. Considering a year left on his deal here, the Red Devils could open the door for a cut-price transfer.
Some Spanish sides, including former club Villarreal, were keen around January. But now, the big admiration comes from Sevilla. Technical director Monchi does not want to repeat last summer’s mistake after letting Diego Carlos and Jules Kounde leave.
Sevilla are also keen on Victor Lindelof, alongside Donny van de Beek and Alex Telles. So Bailly is not the only Manchester United player they want, but in terms of defenders, they may choose one. The 28-year-old Ivorian has the talent to succeed, but his injury record might block a move.
Sevilla are currently fighting a relegation battle and would want decent options to strengthen the squad. Someone like Bailly may come across as unreliable owing to his layoffs. But the player has the talent to succeed at a top club.
For now, they will hope for a cut-price move from Manchester United that would suit Sevilla in a big way. The Red Devils will be happy to sell the defender. It would reduce their wage bill and possibly bring something to their transfer fund.
