Liverpool have made 24-year-old Chelsea star midfielder Mason Mount their priority for the summer transfer window.
According to football.london, Liverpool are keen on having Mason Mount in their ranks ahead of next season. The Merseyside club are looking for a midfield overhaul after a disappointing season and have made signing the 24-year-old Chelsea playmaker a priority.
Mount’s future at Chelsea has been uncertain for a while now. The England international has been at the club since his childhood days. He has come through the ranks at Chelsea and established himself as a key first-team player.
The 24-year-old played a big part in their UEFA Champions League success in the recent past. However, the ongoing season has not been that great for him. He has featured in 32 matches and has nine goal contributions to his name.
Mount’s current contract at Chelsea runs out in the summer of 2024. The club have been trying to pen down a new contract with the England international but they have not tasted success yet. The player’s representatives believe he should have pay parity with some of the highest earners at the club.
However, the club is not willing to go that big on his wages and they want him to sign a seven-year contract. While the player wants a shorter deal to leave room for further negotiations.
With just over 12 months left on his contract, Chelsea will have to act fast. If they fail to sort it out before the end of the season, the Blues might have no other option but to let him leave for a cheap price as they will not want to risk losing him for free in a year’s time. And, there are quite a few clubs interested in the 24-year-old.
Liverpool are well aware of this situation. Jurgen Klopp is a big admirer of the Chelsea midfielder. And, the Reds would love to have him in their ranks. Klopp’s men have struggled in the ongoing season and most of it is because of an inconsistent midfield.
