Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur receive a major setback in their pursuit of Evan Ferguson who wants to stay at Brighton.
According to Daily Mail, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are interested in acquiring the services of Evan Ferguson. The 18-year-old wonderkid has been on the radar of multiple teams across Europe. And the two Premier League clubs were keen on having him in their ranks ahead of next season. However, they have received a major setback as the player wants to stay at Brighton.
Ferguson joined Brighton back in the winter of 2021 from Bohemians. He started with their Under-23 side and was soon promoted to their first team. The 18-year-old has already made 22 appearances for the first team and has 12 goal contributions to his name.
The Republic of Ireland international has done wonders of late and he is considered a great prospect for the future. As a result, a lot of clubs are keen on acquiring talented teenagers.
Manchester United wanted to land the Seagulls’ forward ahead of next season. They were keen on bolstering their attack and were looking sign Ferguson alongside a star striker. But, things might not go in their favour as the player is not keen on a move as of now.
Erik ten Hag is desperate for attacking reinforcement as Anthony Martial’s future at the club is uncertain and Wout Weghorst is set to return to his parent club. The Dutch manager wants support for his start forward Marcus Rashford. But as per the report, he might have to look elsewhere.
The 18-year-old has been on the radar of Tottenham Hotspur as well. The London club wanted to land the teenager at the club in the summer as they consider him to be Harry Kane’s successor. While there is no clarity about their star striker’s future, they believe he will serve his contract, and signing Ferguson would have given them some time for transition.
However, Brighton are trying to extend his contract at the club. And, the player is happy with the amount of game time he has received at the club. Ferguson is getting a good amount of first-team exposure with the Seagulls and he wants to continue there for at least another season. As a result, it seems both the Premier League giants will have to look for options elsewhere.
