Barcelona might look to re-sign Dutch attacking sensation Xavi Simons, valued at €30 million by PSV Eindhoven, this summer.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Xavi Simons is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The Catalan giants are closely monitoring the progress of the Dutch attacking sensation. And PSV Eindhoven will demand €30 million to part ways with him, although they do not want to sell him.
Xavi Simons has had to grind his way since leaving Barcelona’s famed La Masia Academy a few years ago. The 19-year-old spent nearly a decade in Barcelona’s youth division before joining Paris Saint-Germain, hoping to secure a quicker pathway to first-team football. But he could not establish a foothold in PSG’s first team, making only a few senior appearances.
Simons thus left PSG last summer as a free agent before joining PSV Eindhoven. And the decision has paid off handsomely, as he has been a regular for the Dutch giants while breaking into the national side. The attacking sensation has 24 direct goal contributions (16 strikes and eight assists) this season. And his progress has captured the attention of his former club Barcelona.
Considering Simons likes to play as a no. 10, Barcelona might not have his favoured spot in the first-team setup. But the 19-year-old can play on either flank, making him an option worth considering. That is because Ferran Torres and Ansu Fati face uncertain futures at Spotify Camp Nou.
Barcelona might sell at least one of the two attackers to balance the books and fund new signings this summer. And Simons can potentially replace either player to bolster Barcelona’s attack. But the Blaugrana might face stiff competition from several others clubs in the player’s chase.
Arsenal, Chelsea, and Real Madrid are also interested in the Dutch attacking sensation. But Barcelona can potentially convince him to return by offering him regular game time. Meanwhile, the teenager has an asking price of around €30 million, although it is unclear if PSV will be open to his sale.
Barcelona might not be in a position to pay €30 million to re-sign Simons unless they balance the books. But considering his progress this season, a player who has directly contributed to 24 goals can be a solid addition to the squad. Meanwhile, the Catalan giants also have a few other former players, including Thiago Alcantara, on their radar.
