Newcastle United are all set to battle it out with Arsenal and Barcelona for the services of 25-year-old Belgium international Youri Tielemans.
According to a report by Football Insider, Newcastle United are keen on signing Youri Tielemans ahead of next season. The Magpies are all set to battle it out with league leaders Arsenal for the 25-year-old midfielder. Both the teams are keen on bolstering their midfield ahead of next season and have the Belgian international as a key target.
Tielemans joined the Foxes back in the winter of 2019 on an initial six-month-long loan from Monaco. The transfer was made permanent in the summer on the back of his impressive performances. He has since gone from strength to strength at the club and is currently amongst their most important players.
While the Foxes have been struggling in the ongoing season, the Belgian international has done his bit. He has featured in 29 matches and has four goal contributions. Leicester City are currently fighting relegation and things don’t look good for the club as a whole.
They are likely to lose out on the 25-year-old for free in the summer. His contract at the club ends ahead of next season and they are yet to agree on an extension. As per reports, he is unlikely to sign a new deal and is looking for greener pastures elsewhere.
Tielemans is on the radar of Arsenal, they have done a great job in the current campaign. Mikel Arteta’s team are leading the title race and are set to return to the Champions League next season. Arteta has already started planning for next season and wants to sign a new midfielder. He believes adding the Belgian international would give him depth as well as make them contenders for all major titles.
However, they will face competition from the Magpies who are also keen on having the 25-year-old in their ranks. Newcastle are trying to build a squad of world-class players who can challenge for the Premier League title.
They are pushing for a Champions League spot in the ongoing season and believe signing Tielemans could take them to the next step. Meanwhile, Barcelona are also interested in the Belgium midfielder. The Catalan giants are going through a financial crisis and do not have funds to sign new players in the summer.
However, their manager Xavi is keen on having reinforcement, especially in the centre of the park. And, their best bet is to somehow sign a free agent a register him by offloading a few players.
They feel Tielemans could be a great addition to their ranks, the 25-year-old could easily fit into the system of the Spanish manager. However, with three big clubs involved in the transfer tussle, it will be interesting to see who comes out on top.
