Liverpool could look at Rodrigo De Paul to come in during the summer as he could depart Atletico Madrid in the summer.
According to Fichajes, Liverpool are keen on Rodrigo De Paul to shore up their midfield options. Jurgen Klopp could look at the 28-year-old World Cup winner’s experience in the game and bring him during the summer window, with Atletico Madrid likely to sell.
Diego Simeone’s future remains uncertain at Atletico Madrid along with a few key stars. One of those who could leave during the summer is Rodrigo De Paul, with the Argentine manager not preferring to start his compatriot regularly in games this season.
After a complicated first season in Madrid, De Paul failed to live up to expectations and continued with his inconsistent performances. Simeone identified the problem and without any proper resolution, chose to keep the 28-year-old World Cup winner more on the bench.
While De Paul was a starring presence in Argentina’s World Cup-winning team, he continues to struggle for regular game time in Madrid. Simeone even considered selling him last summer, but held on to the chance of rectifying the problems.
Atletico could decide on cashing in on the midfielder during the next window with a few top sides interested. Liverpool are reportedly keen on the 28-year-old to come in and shore up their options in the central areas. The Merseysiders have struggled for relevance this season, which could see Jurgen Klopp revamp their midfield roster.
They are also keen on De Paul’s Atletico teammate Marcos Llorente as another option. Their main priority for the central midfield role is Jude Bellingham, but the usual complications with finances persist. They will look at alternatives if they fail in the pursuit of the Dortmund star.
Liverpool could also look at a defensive midfielder with Romeo Lavia and Manu Kone linked with moves. It’s clear that Klopp would like to bring more than one midfielder in the summer, and De Paul could become an option if he seeks top-notch experience.
Atletico could demand around €40 million for the Argentine, which seems like a fair price for the experience and character the 28-year-old brings. Other teams could also sniff around for the Argentine if the Madrid club indicates over a sale.
