Manchester United and Liverpool are all set to battle it out for the services of Atletico Madrid midfielder Marcos Llorente.
According to Fichajes, Manchester United are Liverpool are interested in the services of Marcos Llorente. The Atletico Madrid midfielder has been amongst their best performers over the last two seasons. And, a lot of clubs are keen on having the Spain international in their ranks.
Llorente was a part of the Real Madrid youth academy back in the day. He came through the ranks at Los Blancos and was also a part of their first team for a while before being sold to city rivals Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2019.
The 28-year-old midfielder has gone from strength to strength since joining Diego Simeone’s team. He has become an integral part of their first team over the last few seasons. Llorente has featured in a total of 147 matches for Atletico and has been involved in 44 goals.
The Spain international had a major impact on games when he was pushed up the field by his manager Simeone. But, post their offensive signings he has dropped back to his usual central midfield role and his impact has gone down just a touch.
As far as the ongoing season is concerned, the 28-year-old has featured in 26 matches and has 6 goal involvements. While Atletico consider him an integral part of their squad and he has a long-term contract with them, the Spain international could still be sold in the summer to balance the books as his departure will bring them around €80 million.
Meanwhile, United and Liverpool are the clubs ready to battle it out for his services. Jurgen Klopp’s team have underperformed in the ongoing season because of an inconsistent midfield. And, the German manager is keen on a midfielder overhaul.
He would love to have Llorente in his ranks given the versatility he provides. However, they will face competition from Manchester United. The Red Devils have done a great job under their new boss Erik ten Hag. The Dutch tactician, however, wants more reinforcement.
Ten Hag believes they need more depth in their midfield to challenge for major titles, and they are looking to push for the €80 million rated midfielder in the summer. With two of the biggest Premier League clubs pushing for his services, it will be interesting to see if they can prise him away from Spain.
