Liverpool are interested in signing the 23-year-old Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher ahead of next season.
According to a report by The Independent, Liverpool are interested in having the services of Conor Gallagher. The Merseyside club are in need of a major overhaul in the centre of the park and have their eyes on Chelsea’s 23-year-old.
Gallagher has been a part of the Chelsea setup since 2008. He started off at their youth academy and slowly moved up the ranks. The England international was subject to multiple loan moves to gain first-team experience.
His loan spell at Crystal Palace in the 2021/22 campaign was the breakthrough moment. The 23-year-old produced consistent performances for the Eagles. And, on the back of it, he was promoted to their first team. While there were numerous clubs after his services, the Blues decided to make him an integral part of their first team.
Gallagher has featured in 33 matches for the Blues in the ongoing season. He has become one of their most dependable players in his first season with the senior team. The 23-year-old’s contract at the club runs until the summer of 2025. However, there is a possibility of his departure in the summer due to the amount of interest in his services as well as the pressure on Chelsea to balance their books.
The Blues have spent a fortune on acquiring new players since the arrival of their new owners. And, will have to offload quite a few players to meet the Financial Fair Play requirement. While they consider Gallagher an important part of their setup, they might still offload him if the right offer arrives.
Meanwhile, the Merseyside club who are looking for a midfield overhaul have their eyes on the England international. Jurgen Klopp wants Gallagher at the club ahead of next season. Their midfield has been inconsistent in the ongoing season, and it has been a major reason for their disappointing run.
Klopp wants an upgrade in the midfield and believes that the 23-year-old’s arrival can bring the energy and attributes that have been missing in their squad in the current campaign. There are other clubs as well in the hunt for his signatures. While Liverpool are eager to land the England international, it will be interesting to see if the Blues are willing to let him join a rival club.
