Manchester City have joined the race to sign 20-year-old Barcelona star Ansu Fati amidst interest from Arsenal.
According to Football Insider, Manchester City have entered the race for the signatures of Ansu Fati. The 20-year-old Barcelona star’s future has been uncertain of late and a lot of big clubs across Europe have their eyes on the Spain international.
Fati joined Barcelona’s famous youth academy La Masia at the age of 10 and has since gone from strength to strength at the club. However, the lack of game time in the ongoing season has frustrated him. Even his father has publicly talked about it and suggested that he would prefer seeing him at another club rather than on the bench.
The Spain international’s father said, :If it was up to me, I would take him [to another team]. As a dad, I am angry. Seeing Ansu play so little winds you up a little bit and sometimes I think as a father, not a coach.”
Fati made it into the Catalan giants’ first team in 2019 and has since featured in 96 matches and has been involved in 34 goals. While he started his senior career in some style, things have slowed down of late.
Injuries have troubled the Spain international and he has fallen down the pecking order under Xavi in the ongoing season. Fati has played the full 90 minutes of a match just once in the ongoing campaign.
He has been on the pitch for just over 1300 minutes in his 38 outings. The 20-year-old’s ongoing contract runs until the summer of 2027. And, there is the option to extend it by another two years. However, his father’s comments suggest that there is a possibility of him leaving in the summer.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are one of the clubs that are keen on having the 20-year-old in their ranks. The Gunners have done a great job in the ongoing season. They are currently leading the league title race and are all set to return to the Champions League.
Mikel Arteta wants to further strengthen his attack before heading into next season. He wants a new winger to add more firepower and has identified Fati as a great potential signing for the Club. While Arsenal are planning a Fati swoop, they will now face competition from Manchester City who have joined the race for his signatures.
City have numerous options on the flanks but they are still looking to further strengthen their squad. While they don’t really need a new winger, Fati’s arrival will only bolster their attack. And, he will easily fit into Pep Guardiola’s system.
The 20-year-old might have struggled in the ongoing season but he surely has the talent and time to turn things around. With some of the biggest Premier League clubs interested in his signatures, it will be interesting to see who wins the transfer tussle for the Barcelona star.
