Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has been linked with a move away from the club at the end of the season.

Manchester United paid big money for Harry Maguire. But he has been largely underwhelming during his time at Old Trafford. The 30-year-old is being linked with a move back to his former club Leicester City now. A report from The Sun claims that the Foxes could look to sign him on loan next season.

Maguire is likely to cost substantial money, and Manchester United will be hoping to recoup most of what they paid for him. However, they will find it difficult to mitigate their losses because of the player’s form and status at the club.

The 30-year-old is currently the third-choice defender at Manchester United. And the suitors will be hoping to sign him for a knockdown price. It will be interesting to see if Manchester United are prepared to sanction a loan departure for the player.

Leicester City are in need of defensive reinforcements, and the 30-year-old could prove to be a useful addition for them. There is no doubt that Harry Maguire is a quality defender for mid-table clubs. And he could help Leicester improve at the back.

Furthermore, a return to his former club could be ideal for the 30-year-old as well. It will help him play regularly and recapture his form and confidence ahead of UEFA Euro 2024 with England.

Maguire needs to play regularly at this stage of his career, and he is unlikely to get those opportunities at Manchester United, especially with Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane ahead of him in the pecking order.

A transfer away from Manchester United would be ideal for all parties. The Red Devils will have to bring in a quality replacement if the 30-year-old ends up returning to Leicester City. Manchester United will be hoping to challenge for major trophies next season, and they need a deeper squad to compete on all fronts.

They cannot depend on Martinez and Varane as the only reliable defenders at the club. And Manchester United have shown interest in a few centre-backs, including Luka Vuskovic.
