Barcelona and Tottenham are reportedly advancing talks over a deal worth €14 million for 27-year-old French centre-back Clement Lenglet.
According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Clement Lenglet might complete a permanent move to Tottenham Hotspur. The Premier League heavyweights have advanced discussions with Barcelona over a deal in the summer transfer window. And the agreement between the two clubs might be worth €14 million.
Clement Lenglet has seen his stock reduce considerably in the last few years. A few years ago, he was on top of the world after becoming the first-choice centre-back for Barcelona. The Frenchman was also a regular for his national side due to his performances at the club level. But inconsistency has been his bane, as he gradually fell down the pecking order at FC Barcelona.
Lenglet’s falling stock earned him a loan move away from Barcelona, with Tottenham signing him last summer. And the 27-year-old has been a regular for Spurs, turning out 27 times across all competitions. The player now approaches a crucial juncture in his career as his loan deal with Tottenham ends.
Recent reports have painted a contrasting picture of Tottenham’s stance over signing Lenglet permanently. Several outlets claimed last month that the north London giants were ready to extend the player’s stay at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
But reports this month have suggested that Tottenham would not sign the Barcelona defender permanently. However, the earlier claims are seemingly correct according to SPORT. The Spanish outlet has claimed that discussions between Barcelona and Tottenham are advancing. So a summer deal might be on the cards.
A potential agreement will unlikely set Tottenham back by much, with €14 million likely to seal the deal. And that seems to be the best-case scenario for all parties involved. That is because Barcelona can go some way to balancing the books, while Lenglet’s future will be secure with a permanent move to Tottenham.

While signing the 27-year-old is not ideal for Tottenham, they will have a decent backup option in Lenglet. But it will be interesting to see if discussions between Barcelona and the north London club reach the desired result.
