La Liga champions Real Madrid reportedly want to sign 26-year-old German international Leroy Sane from Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Leroy Sane is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The 26-year-old might leave Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window. And the Merengues view him as a potential replacement for Marco Asensio.
Leroy Sane rose to prominence at FC Schalke 04 before seeing his stock skyrocket at Manchester City. The German international was a pivotal figure for the Premier League heavyweights but ended his stint abruptly in July 2020. And he has blown hot and cold since returning to the Bundesliga three years ago.
The 26-year-old has chipped in with goal contributions regularly but has not been an undisputed first-choice starter. As for the ongoing season, Sane has 13 goals and seven assists in 32 outings this term. But the player’s long-term future at Bayern Munich is uncertain following Thomas Tuchel’s arrival. And such a situation has captured the attention of Real Madrid.
Sane is not the only Bayern Munich attacker on Real Madrid’s radar. And the reigning La Liga champions have also shown interest in Kingsley Coman. Meanwhile, Serge Gnabry is another target for Los Blancos. As for the keenness to sign the former Manchester City attacker, it makes sense.
The Merengues are in a spot of bother over the long-term future of Marco Asensio. The Spaniard is in the final months of his contract with Real Madrid and might depart as a free agent. Sane has thus emerged as a viable target for Los Blancos. And they view him as a competitor to Rodrygo Goes for the right-wing berth.
Sane’s versatility means he can operate on either flank, making him an attractive target for Real Madrid. And with his Bayern Munich future uncertain, the 26-year-old is an achievable option for the summer. But it is unclear when the Spanish champions will approach their Bundesliga counterparts.
