Ivan Perisic could follow Antonio Conte out of the club during the summer after a single season in north London.
According to Calciomercato, Ivan Perisic could quit Tottenham in the summer for another challenge. The Croatian veteran may have signed with the team to play for Antonio Conte, and with the Italian’s departure, he may not want to continue.
Ivan Perisic arrived on a free transfer last summer when his Inter Milan contract expired. Antonio Conte knew the player and what he could bring to the team from his time in Serie A, thus wasting no time when he became available.
Upon his arrival, the 34-year-old signed a two-year deal until 2024 and has been a regular under the Italian. However, with Antonio Conte sacked after plenty of drama at Tottenham, the Croat might follow his manager in the summer.
While Tottenham search for a replacement for Conte, names like Julian Nagelsmann and Mauricio Pochettino are mentioned heavily. With the Italian gone, that could result in key changes at Spurs. The future of Harry Kane, Dejan Kulusevski and others remains in doubt.
As for Perisic, he reportedly wants a return to Inter Milan, who could look to re-sign him. The 34-year-old has played a key role for Spurs this season, predominantly from a left wing-back role. He has managed only one goal, which came in Conte’s last game in charge of the club at Southampton.
Perisic has provided nine assists in all competitions, which have proved crucial. While there are no complaints over his performance levels, he may not see a future in north London beyond the current campaign and without Conte.
He could evaluate his decisions in the summer and possibly sign for a club elsewhere, possibly in Italy. Whether Spurs allow him a free transfer or seek a transfer fee remains the question, but they might look for a younger alternative to the Summer signing.
With the weak links to Inter Milan, there is not much interest in Perisic. Some Italian clubs could view him as a bargain signing but undoubtedly would not like to pay a transfer fee. The 34-year-old will certainly have offers, but some could prove underwhelming compared to his Spurs deal.
