According to Football Insider, Tottenham Hotspur are keen on having the services of James Ward-Prowse. Spurs are looking to bolster their squad ahead of next season and have the Southampton midfielder as a potential transfer target.

Ward-Prowse has been a part of Southampton since his childhood days. He has gone through the ranks at the club and has established himself as one of their most important players.  The 28-year-old made it into their senior team back in the summer of 2012. And, he has not looked back since.

Ward-Prowse has been the skipper of the Saints for the last few seasons and he has been performing on a consistent basis. The England international has featured in 399 matches for the Saints and has over 100 goal contributions to his name. He has found the back of the net on 53 occasions and has 51 assists to his name.

Out of his 53 goals, 17 have come from free kicks. The dead-ball specialist is closing in on David Beckham’s tally of 18 Premier League free kicks. And, If he continues to play in the English top flight, the 28-year-old is likely to break Beckham’s record of the most free-kick goals in the league.

Ward-Prowse’s current contract with the Saints ends in the summer of 2026. While he has been a loyal servant of the club, the England international might leave them ahead of next season if they fail to survive in the Premier League.

Southampton are currently bottom of the English top flight. And with just 10 matches remaining, survival looks very difficult. If they get relegated, the club will not stand in Ward-Prowse’s way as a sign of respect for his loyalty.

This is where Tottenham come in, the London club are keen on signing a new midfielder. While they are yet to sort out their managerial issues, they have already started planning for next season. Irrespective of who the new manager is, the club is in desperate need of reinforcement if they want to end their title drought.

Ward-Prowse could be a great fit for the club given his creative play and the fact that he is one of the best dead-ball specialists in the country. However, it won’t be that easy a task to land him at the club given the amount of interest in his services from elsewhere.
