Mikel Arteta pushing Arsenal to sign Martin Zubimendi

Mikel Arteta is keen on having 24-year-old midfielder Martin Zubimendi in his ranks at Arsenal ahead of next season.

According to Fichajes, Mikel Arteta wants Martin Zubimendi at Arsenal in the summer. The 24-year-old has been a consistent performer for Real Sociedad over the last few seasons. His performances have not gone unnoticed and a lot of clubs have their eyes on him.

Zubimendi has been a part of Real Sociedad since his childhood days. The 24-year-old has gone up the ranks at the club and has established himself as one of their most important players.

He was promoted to their first team in the summer of 2020. The Spain international has since made 132 appearances for Imanol Alguacil’s team and has 9 goal contributions to his name. The 24-year-old defensive midfielder has featured in 33 matches in the ongoing season and has four goal involvements.

He has been one of their most consistent performers over the years and his contract at the club runs until the summer of 2027. However, there is a €60 million release clause in his contract that could see him leave Real Sociedad in the summer.

Barcelona are one of the clubs that have been monitoring the Spain international for a while now. The Catalan giants consider him to be a long-term replacement for veteran Sergio Busquets who is in the twilight of his career.

Xavi is keen on having Zubimendi in his ranks. However, it won’t be easy given their financial situation. The club cannot afford to trigger his release clause at this point in time. And, it might work in the favour of Arsenal, who would love to have the 24-year-old at their disposal.

Arteta has done wonders for the Gunners in the ongoing season. They are leading the race for the Premier League title and are all set to return to the UEFA Champions League.

However, the Spanish manager wants to add more quality and is keen on having Zubimendi in his ranks. He pushing to have him ahead of next season. The Gunners boss wants a new defensive midfielder. Arteta is aware that the arrival of the 24-year-old will improve his chances of winning the UCL next season.

His arrival will increase the depth of their midfield and allow Arteta to have the luxury of rotating his squad. And, with them set to return to UCL, they are willing to pay €60 million to land the Spain international at the Emirates Stadium.
