Jonathan David, valued at around €60 million by Ligue 1 outfit Lille, is the latest striker to emerge on the radar of Real Madrid.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Jonathan David is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The reigning La Liga champions are closely monitoring the Canadian striker at LOSC Lille. And the Ligue 1 outfit will demand €60 million to part ways with the youngster.
Jonathan David has come leaps and bounds since arriving in Europe. The 23-year-old spent his formative years with three Canadian clubs before joining KAA Gent in 2018. And after two years with the Belgian club, he moved to Ligue 1 to join Lille. And the youngster has not looked back since then.
The Canadian international has established himself as one of the best strikers in Ligue 1. And David is enjoying a solid 2022/23 season, amassing 21 goals and four assists in 30 appearances. Meanwhile, as the player competes with Kylian Mbappe to be the top scorer in Ligue 1, his progress has alerted Real Madrid.
Real Madrid might have to delve into the market for a striker in the summer transfer window. That is because Mariano Diaz faces an uncertain future at the Santiago Bernabeu. And the 29-year-old will likely leave Real Madrid to resurrect his career this coming summer. In addition, Karim Benzema has struggled with fitness issues this term.
The Frenchman has been a talismanic figure for Real Madrid for four seasons. But his fitness woes have left a sore spot in the Real Madrid attack in the ongoing season. And with Benzema in the twilight of his career, it behoves Los Blancos to sign a striker who can compete with Endrick for the first-choice striker’s berth.
Several names, including Harry Kane and Erling Haaland, have thus popped up on Real Madrid’s radar. And Jonathan David is also a viable target for the reigning La Liga champions. But Ligue 1 outfit Lille will not part ways with the Canadian striker cheaply, demanding €60 million in exchange for his services.
