Manchester City are willing to offer a player-plus-cash to sign midfielder Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United in the summer.

According to The Sunday Mirror via HITC, Manchester City could prepare a swap deal to sign Bruno Guimaraes in the summer. Pep Guardiola reportedly admires the midfielder and could offer Kalvin Phillips plus cash for the Magpies star.

Bruno Guimaraes was a rising star at Lyon and realised his potential after moving to Newcastle United in January 2022. The Brazilian has instantly become a fan favourite and one of the first names on Eddie Howe’s teamsheet.

With him at the base of midfield, Newcastle United have defied the odds and continues fighting for a place in the top four. After the latest round of matches, the Magpies could count themselves as one of the favourites to play in the Champions League. Meanwhile, Tottenham have started showing signs of a late collapse, which could benefit Howe’s side.

If they do make it into Europe, Howe would want to retain his current best players, including Guimaraes. Real Madrid have shown admiration for the Brazilian, which may prove problematic for Newcastle United. Rarely a player rejects the overtures of the Spanish giants, and that may well be the case with Guimaraes.

However, the midfielder has repeatedly reiterated his love for Newcastle and his desire to become a legend here. The Magpies are now keen on offering him a new contract to recognise his efforts and performances. While they are confident of an agreement, Manchester City are the latest club to sniff around for the Brazilian.

Pep Guardiola reportedly admires Guimaraes and wants to sign the midfielder in his setup. The Brazilian’s technical ability and the will to fight on the pitch make him a perfect player for Manchester City. However, considering the midfielder’s importance, convincing Newcastle may not be straightforward.

Manchester City are willing to offer 27-year-old star Kalvin Phillips plus a reported £80 million in cash for Guimaraes. While the offer may seem tempting, Newcastle United are unlikely to accept those terms. For one, they value the player, and secondly, they will not want to strengthen a direct rival, as may be the case next season.

The 27-year-old Phillips has had an underwhelming season since signing last summer. Guardiola wanted the former Leeds star to provide competition in midfield, but he has barely troubled Rodri for the position. The Manchester City boss may remain open to letting him leave and would like to use him in a deal for Phillips.

Manchester City are reportedly interested in former player Romeo Lavia. They may consider seriously pursuing the Southampton star. As things stand, Newcastle are unlikely to entertain offers from Manchester City or any other Premier League side for Guimaraes.

The Brazilian will likely remain at St. James’ Park for the foreseeable future. Hence, Manchester City should better start looking elsewhere for midfield solutions as a move for Lavia, or someone else may materialise. Guimaraes could sign the new contract with the Magpies, with which he will kill all speculation surrounding his future.
