Barcelona are reportedly eyeing up a move for veteran Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta ahead of the summer.

A report from Fichajes claims that 33-year-old Spanish defender Cesar Azpilicueta is on the radar of Barcelona. And they are hoping to sign the Chelsea veteran up on a cut-price fee in the summer transfer window.

Azpilicueta will enter the final year of his Chelsea contract in the summer and he is unlikely to sign an extension with the London club. The defender has been a key player for the Premier League side since joining them. And he could prove to be a useful addition for Barcelona in the coming seasons.

Barcelona need to add more quality and depth to their backline. And Azpilicueta would be a handy option for a reasonable price. The opportunity to return to Spain could prove to be an attractive proposition for the 33-year-old.

So it remains to be seen whether he ends up at Barcelona next season. The Chelsea veteran can play as a right-back as well as a centre-back. And his versatility will be an added bonus for Barcelona.

Furthermore, the Spanish giants could use his winning experience and leadership qualities as well. Azpilicueta has captained Chelsea for a number of seasons. And his qualities could prove to be priceless for the Barcelona dressing room next season.

Despite the fact that he is 33, Azpilicueta is good enough to play at a high level and will certainly help Barcelona on and off the pitch. Apart from his defensive qualities on the pitch, he could be the ideal mentor for talented young defenders like Jules Kounde and Ronald Araujo.

The Spaniard has proven himself in the Premier League over a number of seasons. But the opportunity to showcase his qualities in La Liga seems like the ideal opportunity for the Chelsea captain at this stage of his career.

The player was heavily linked with a move away from Chelsea at the start of the season as well. However, the Blues convinced him to stay at the club for another year. He has helped Chelsea win multiple trophies during his time at the club and he will leave as a club. Legend at the end of the season.
