Newcastle United are interested in signing 28-year-old Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski ahead of next season.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio via Sport Witness, Newcastle United are keen on securing the services of Piotr Zielinski. The 28-year-old has been on fire in the ongoing season for Napoli. And, his performances have attracted the attention of a few big clubs across Europe.
Zielinski has been a part of the Serie A club since the summer of 2016. The Poland international has gone from strength to strength at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium and is currently amongst their most important players.
However, his current contract with the club ends in the summer of 2024. Napoli have been trying to pen a new deal with the 28-year-old for a while now but they haven’t tasted success yet. If they fail to extend his contract, they might not have any other option rather then selling him.
With just over a year left in his existing contract, a lot of clubs have started to enquire about the Polish midfielder. And, as per the reports, the club might sell him in the summer if they receive a decent sum, given he has not penned down a new deal yet.
During his time at the club, he has featured in over 300 matches and has 89 goal contributions to his name. Zielinski has played a major part in Napoli’s heroics in the ongoing season. They are currently leading the race for the Serie A title and have an 18-point lead over the second-placed team.
The 28-year-old has featured in 35 matches for the Naples-based club this season. Zielinski has managed to find the back of the net on seven occasions, and he also has nine assists to his name. While he is in the form of his life at Napoli, Zielinski might be on his way out in the summer.
Meanwhile, Newcastle United are pushing for a Champions League spot. They are currently fifth in the Premier League but have a great chance of making it into the top four. If they manage to secure UCL football for next season, the Magpies will enter the market in search of reinforcements.
Eddie Howe would love to further strengthen his midfield. The Newcastle boss is keen on signing Zielinski ahead of next season. Howe believes the 28-year-old’s arrival will bolster his squad, increase the depth in midfield and allow him to rotate his key players.
However, it won’t be an easy task for Newcastle United because Napoli will only sell if they receive the right offer and there will be competition for his services.
