West Ham United are reportedly interested in signing Bournemouth defender Jordan Zemura, a target for Aston Villa and Newcastle United.
According to a report from 90min, West Ham United are looking to improve their defensive department. And they have identified the 23-year-old left-back as a potential target. The Bournemouth defender is also a target for other Premier League clubs like Aston Villa and Newcastle United.
Zemura has been quite impressive for the Cherries this season. And despite the fact that they are fighting a relegation battle, that 23-year-old has caught the attention of a number of Premier League clubs with his performances.
Apparently, West Ham are preparing a move for the Zimbabwe international at the end of the season. And it remains to be seen whether they can agree on a Bosman deal with the 23-year-old, whose contract will end in the summer.
The Cherries are in real danger of going down this season and if they are relegated from the Premier League, players like Zemura could look to move on and join bigger clubs. And Bournemouth might not have a say in his future either way, considering his contract situation.
Moving to West Ham would be a step up in the player’s career, and it remains to be seen how the situation develops. The 23-year-old recently put in an impressive performance against Liverpool, and the Cherries managed to grind out a 1-0 win at the Vitality stadium.
Zemura is still quite young and is likely to develop further and improve as a defender. A move to West Ham could be ideal for his growth. However, the Hammers must ensure that they preserve their status as a Premier League club. They are still very much in the relegation battle and will have to improve their performances to remain in the Premier League.
Meanwhile, West Ham, who have shown interest in other left-backs like Kieran Tierney, are not the only club looking to sign Zemura at the end of the season. The likes of Newcastle United, Leeds United, and Aston Villa also admire the defender. Clubs from Germany and France have shown interest in the player as well.
Newcastle need to bring in a specialist left-back. They have been using Dan Burn as their left-back this season and have also shown interest in Tierney. However, Aston Villa already have Lucas Digne, and they signed Alex Moreno in January. Unai Emery will have to sell one of them before making a move for Zemura.
It will be interesting to see if West Ham decide to get rid of some of their fringe players before making a move for the 23-year-old. David Moyes currently has Emerson Palmieri and Aaron Cresswell as his left-backs.
However, 33-year-old Cresswell is in his twilight years and will have to be replaced soon. Zemura could be the ideal replacement for the West Ham fan favorite. Cresswell is also the club’s longest-serving player, and the arrival of the 23-year-old Bournemouth defender could be the end of him at West Ham.
