Tottenham have initiated talks with Harry Kane over a new deal, with Manchester United lurking in the background to sign the striker.

According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Tottenham have opened discussions with Harry Kane over a new deal. The 29-year-old will enter the final year of his contract, and Manchester United want to sign him in the summer, but Spurs are calm about the situation.

There’s been plenty of chatter about Harry Kane’s future. Speculation accelerated after Tottenham’s exit from the FA Cup and Champions League. The idea of the Spurs’ record goalscorer winning trophies remains central.

Kane will enter the final year of his deal at Spurs, and so far, there’s no talk of a contract extension. The 29-year-old could understandably wait until the end of the season to see where Tottenham finish in the league and then decide on his next path.

He might be open to remaining at Tottenham and signing a new deal, but the conditions around the club have to be right for Kane. Those may include how Spurs want to move forward with their project and who the new manager might be if Antonio Conte departs.

Kane recently surpassed Jimmy Greaves’ record for Tottenham to become their top goalscorer. Unfortunately, during his career, the striker has not won a single trophy; something he desires before his time in football ends.

Manchester United are ready to go all out to sign Kane, as Erik ten Hag considers the 29-year-old his primary striker target. They have other options in Victor Osimhen, but the England captain guarantees success from the get-go.

Tottenham are reportedly relaxed about the situation, and Daniel Levy might demand a fee of over £100 million if they decide to sell him. While Manchester United may have the resources to spend big, they could ponder over spending that much on the 29-year-old.

As things stand, Tottenham have initiated negotiations with Kane and his camp over a potential new deal. Nothing seems advanced at this stage, but the club could sow the seeds to get a deal done by the end of the season. The striker will likely decide around the summer, as the Manchester United target keeps his options open.

Spurs fans would certainly like Kane to stay put and will love to see him lift a trophy for the club. Ultimately, the decision will remain with the striker as he ponders a major decision surrounding his future. Manchester United will be ready to pounce on the opportunity. They will have to convince Levy to get the deal done, which is easier said than done.
