Arsenal are interested in signing 28-year-old Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic ahead of next season.
According to Gazzetta Dello Sport via Sport Witness, Arsenal are keen on having the services of Sergej Milinkovic-Savic before the start of next season. The 28-year-old has been on their radar for a while now and the Gunners have identified a great opportunity to push for him.
Milinkovic-Savic has been a part of Lazio since joining them in the summer of 2015 from KRC Genk. He has been a great servant for the club during his 8-year-long spell. The Serbian midfielder has featured in over 320 matches for the Italian club.
The 28-year-old has over 120 goal involvements for the Serie A club. As far as the ongoing season is concerned, the Serbia international has 14 goal contributions in 34 outings. It has been another top-notch season for the former KRC Genk midfielder.
He has been an integral part of their team for quite a few years now but it looks like his time with Lazio might come to an end in the summer. The Rome-based club have always been adamant about keeping the star midfielder in their ranks but might lose out on him in the near future.
They have never demanded anything less than €100 million for the 28-year-old. But, this time around they are willing to settle for less. Milinkovic-Savic’s contract at the club ends in the summer of 2024. And, the Serbian is not interested in penning a new deal with the Italian outfit.
Since the player doesn’t want to leave the club for free, Lazio have no other option than to sell him in the summer. The Italian club will be willing to let their star midfielder leave for €50 million. However, the agents of the player are trying to negotiate a departure for around €35 to €40 million.
Meanwhile, Arsenal who have done a great job in the ongoing season are looking to add more quality to their ranks. The Premier League leaders are all set to return to the UEFA Champions League after seven years. And, they want to add more firepower before they kickstart the next season.
Mikel Arteta is keen on signing a new midfielder, he wants more depth in the centre of the park. He is keen on having the 28-year-old at his disposal. While there is no clarity on how much they are willing to spend but the discounted price will surely give them a belief that they can bring Milinkovic-Savic to the club in the summer.
