Manchester United reportedly want to send 19-year-old sensation Joe Hugill on loan to former side Sunderland next season.

According to The Sun, Manchester United could send Joe Hugill back to former club Sunderland on loan next season. The Championship side could offer the 19-year-old sensation a platform to develop into a senior star. The club management have high hopes for their striker.

Premier League sides often take the loan approach to help some promising youngsters get a taste of senior football. These clubs use the EFL Championship as the league to allow their youngsters game time and aid their development before deciding on their futures.

Manchester United’s promising academy has produced several high-profile stars in the passing years. Marcus Rashford remains the beacon of hope for some of these up-and-coming youngsters. They tend to look up to the England international for inspiration.

The Red Devils have many players on their shortlist to come into the first team in the future. One of those is Joe Hugill, the 6’2 striker and goal machine, already drawing comparisons to England captain Harry Kane. The 19-year-old sensation has proven his worth for Manchester United’s youth squads. They are now ready to take the next steps for his development.

He joined National League side Altrincham on loan in January but continues to turn up for Manchester United’s Under-21 sides. Considering his goalscoring record for the lower teams, the Red Devils are looking at the prospect of a Championship loan for the 19-year-old sensation.

Hugill joined Manchester United from Sunderland in 2020 and could join his former side in the summer on a season-long loan deal. The Black Cats are finally on the rise and may attempt to return to the Premier League. Hence, some high-level football at the Stadium of Light next term could help Hugill and his development.

Erik ten Hag, like former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, is keen to see Hugill develop into a first-team star. They want him to gain experience playing timely football and return to the club a year later to stake his claim. And Sunderland, where Amad Diallo has revelled, might be an attractive destination.

Ten Hag might plan a path for the 19-year-old sensation as he did with Alejandro Garnacho, who has become a regular for the team. The Argentine could sign a new contract in the coming weeks and will inspire players like Hugill.

A loan move to former side Sunderland could provide some comfort for Hugill in a familiar surrounding. How much he plays at the EFL Championship club next term remains the question. However, the overall experience could immensely help the 19-year-old’s development.
