Paris Saint-Germain are interested in signing 30-year-old Manchester United skipper Harry Maguire ahead of next season.
According to The Sun, Paris Saint-Germain have their eyes set on Manchester United defender Harry Maguire. The French club were interested in signing the 30-year-old in the winter transfer window, but a move could not materialise.
However, it seems they will be back in the summer to acquire his services. PSG, who have just been knocked out of the UEFA Champions League, by Bayern Munich are desperate to further improve their squad. They want to add another centre-back to their squad and have Maguire as a potential target.
The 30-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at Manchester United. While he is still the club captain, his game time has taken a major hit since the arrival of Erik ten Hag. The Dutch manager bought Lisandro Martínez from Ajax in the summer and prefers the 25-year-old ahead of Maguire.
Raphael Varane and Martínez are ten Hag’s preferred centre-back pairing. He has even used Luke Shaw, who is a full-back, ahead of Maguire in the centre of the defence. The lack of minutes has frustrated the 30-year-old. And despite having more than two years left in his contract he might be on his way out in the summer.
The England international joined the Red Devils back in the summer of 2019 from Leicester City. Initially, he was one of their most important players. But of late, he has fallen down the pecking order. Maguire has made a total of 21 appearances in the ongoing season but has only 1,000 minutes under his belt.
Meanwhile, PSG are interested in Maguire. The French club will look to add more quality to their ranks ahead of next season. They believe adding the 30-year-old to their squad will bolster it. And, they are willing to pay £50 million to land the Manchester United skipper. However, they will have to match Maguire’s £200,000-a-week wages, which does not really seem to be that big a problem for PSG.

Manchester United, who are all set to return to the Champions League, will look to bolster their squad ahead of next season. Erik ten Hag is looking to add three star players to his ranks. But, they do not really have much financial backing amid the wait for a takeover. Maguire’s departure will help Manchester United with their finances. His wages and the transfer fee could be used to add more quality to their ranks as they look to push for major titles next season. And it will be interesting to see if the Red Devils accept a £50 million bid for him.
