William Carvalho could become the subject of interest to several Premier League sides, with an exit from Real Betis on the cards.

According to Fichajes, West Ham United, Aston Villa, and Newcastle United are interested in signing William Carvalho. The 30-year-old midfielder could exit Real Betis in the summer, with the Spanish club eager to cash in on the Portuguese.

William Carvalho was perrenially linked with a move to the Premier League, but a transfer has never materialised. Despite links with some of the biggest clubs in England, the 30-year-old midfielder never secured an agreement to move to the Premier League.

The summer transfer window could open up a possibility for the once-revered defensive midfielder. Real Betis’s financial crunch will force them to sell some notable stars in the window. They have to lower their wage bill and find ways to fund new transfers through sales.

Carvalho may not have been on their transfer list for the summer, but the untimely injury to Nabil Fekir has changed their plans. The 30-year-old midfielder is now a sellable asset through which they can raise funds.

Many big clubs were keen on Fekir, but his knee injury will keep him out of action for several months, thus scuppering any chance of a move anywhere. Instead, Carvalho could feature on the transfer list, and Betis could explore which clubs are keen on the 30-year-old midfielder.

Carvalho had interest from Premier League sides before January, but nothing materialised. The report claims Aston Villa, Newcastle United and West Ham are keen on the midfielder to shore up their squad. Villa, in particular, may not show seriousness in the chase, as they have many defensive midfielders in their ranks.

Newcastle and West Ham’s interests could have some substance to them. The Hammers need to bolster their midfield options. Declan Rice is their only out-and-out defensive midfielder. Moreover, with the England international primed to depart next summer, David Moyes may need a new face to replace him.

While Carvalho may be past his best version, he could still plug a short-term gap in the side. He may yet have a couple of years at the highest level. Alternatively, the 30-year-old midfielder is an ideal choice to play second fiddle in any of those sides, including West Ham.

Meanwhile, Eddie Howe is keen to sign a backup defensive midfielder as cover for Bruno Guimaraes. Carvalho has played at the highest level and remains an experienced head suited for the Premier League.

Whether those clubs sign him remains the question, and much will depend on Betis and their asking price. For now, the Spanish side are desperate to conduct sales, and Carvalho might push for a move to the Premier League if clubs approach.
