Chelsea are all set to battle it out with Catalan giants Barcelona for the services of Inter Milan midfielder Marcelo Brozovic.
According to SPORT, Chelsea are keen on securing the services of Marcelo Brozovic ahead of next season. The Blues are all set to go up against Barcelona in their quest for the Inter Milan defensive midfielder.
Brozovic has been a part of the Serie A outfit since joining them back in the winter of 2015. The 30-year-old initially joined Inter Milan on an 18-month-long loan. His impressive performances forced the Nerazzurri to make his move permanent in the summer of 2016.
The Croatian international has featured in over 300 matches for the team in blue and black. Brozovic has over 60 goal contributions for the Serie A club and has been a rock in front of the defence for the past eight years.
He has struggled in the ongoing season because of injuries and has only featured in 18 matches so far. The 30-year-old’s contract at the club ends in the summer of 2026. However, he has decided to leave in the summer. Brozovic is keen to move on after being a great servant for over eight years. While Inter Milan would have loved to keep him, they are unlikely to stand in his way, given his loyalty over the years.
Meanwhile, Barcelona are one of the clubs that are keen on having Brozovic at the club. Xavi has done a great job at the club since arriving at Spotify Camp Nou. While they might be leading the race for the La Liga title, they have struggled in Europe, having been knocked out of the Champions League as well as the Europa League.
The Barcelona manager will be keen on adding reinforcements ahead of next season. He is on the lookout for a new defensive midfielder who can be rotated alongside veteran Sergio Busquets who is in the twilight of his career.
However, it won’t be easy for the Catalan giants to get the 30-year-old’s signatures because Chelsea are also keen on having him in their ranks. The Blues are all set to offload a few of their senior player in the summer. And, they are looking for further reinforcement in the midfield.
Graham Potter’s team have struggled in the ongoing season. And a lot of it because of the number of new players they have signed. The players have not been able to link up well. Apart from that, the absence of N’Golo Kanté has not helped them either. They are keen on signing a competitor for the 31-year-old French star and are likely to push Barcelona all the way for Brozovic’s services.
