Barcelona recently enquired about the possibility of signing 31-year-old Belgian full-back Thomas Meunier from Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Thomas Meunier is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The Catalan giants have submitted an enquiry for the 31-year-old full-back. And Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund might only demand a nominal price for him.

Thomas Meunier spent most of his professional career in his homeland after graduating from the RE Virton academy. And after a few years with Club Brugge, he joined Paris Saint-Germain in July 2016. That is where the Belgian international’s stock rose as he featured prominently for Les Parisiens.

The 31-year-old joined Borussia Dortmund in July 2020. But he has endured a topsy-turvy ride at the Bundesliga club and is now a backup option for Edin Terzic. And the player has managed a little over 1,000 minutes of game time thus far this term. Meanwhile, Meunier’s situation has captured the attention of Barcelona.

Joan Laporta has recently asserted that Barcelona will look to sign a right-back in the summer transfer window. And that is understandable, considering Xavi Hernandez does not have a recognised right-back at his disposal. That has forced him to field Jules Kounde as the first-choice right-back this season.

With Sergi Roberto closing in on the final phase of his career, Barcelona cannot rely on him much. So the Blaugrana will have to sign a right-back in the summer transfer window. And several candidates have emerged on Barcelona’s radar, with Thomas Meunier being a viable target.

The 31-year-old has been on Barcelona’s radar for well over a year. And the Blaugrana tried to sign him in the January transfer window of 2022. The Catalan giants have now submitted an enquiry for the Belgian full-back, asking for his availability this summer. In addition, Barcelona recently made an approach for Diogo Dalot.

But while Dalot might sign a new Manchester United contract, Meunier might be available for a nominal sum. That will give Barcelona the impetus to launch the offensive to sign him from Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund. It will be interesting to see if a summer move sees the light of day for the 31-year-old.
