Manchester United are among a number of clubs who have reportedly sent scouts to watch the Red Bull Salzburg midfielder Maurits Kjaergaard in action over the weekend.

According to a report from 90min, Maurits Kjaergaard is on Manchester United’s radar. And the Red Devils watched the 19-year-old Danish midfielder up close over the weekend.

It is no secret that Manchester United will have to bring in midfield reinforcements at the end of the season. And Kjaergaard could prove to be a quality long-term acquisition. The 19-year-old has established himself as a key player for the Austrian club. And he has two goals and eight assists to his name across all competitions.

Apparently, the Red Devils were running the rule over the highly-rated striker Benjamin Sesko as well. Along with Manchester United, scouts from Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United, Leicester City, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Leeds United were also present when Red Bull Salzburg picked up a 4-2 win over Rapid Wien.

Kjaergaard is regarded as a prodigious young talent. And it remains to be seen whether the player is keen on a move to Old Trafford at the end of the season. Erik ten Hag has a proven track record of improving talented young players and could help the 19-year-old fulfill his potential in the coming seasons.

Manchester United will have to improve their squad if they want to compete on all fronts next season. And the midfield unit is in need of reinforcements. The Red Devils will have to bring in upgrades on players like Fred and Scott McTominay, who faces an uncertain future at Old Trafford.

That said, Kjaergaard will probably be the ideal replacement for Christian Eriksen. The 19-year-old Danish midfielder is more of a creator and will help create opportunities for the Manchester United attackers. The opportunity to join a big Premier League club is likely to be an attractive option for the player. And it remains to be seen whether the two clubs can agree on a fee now.

Kjaergaard will hope to test himself at a high level. And a move to the Premier League would be an exciting opportunity for him. However, he should seek game-time assurances before making the move to Old Trafford. The 19-year-old cannot afford to sit on the bench at a top club.
