Barcelona and Aymeric Laporte are reportedly maintaining regular contact, with the Manchester City defender keen on moving to Camp Nou.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Aymeric Laporte is ready to leave Manchester City in the summer transfer window. The Spanish international is in touch with Barcelona. And he is prioritising joining the Blaugrana ahead of the 2023/24 season.
Aymeric Laporte has established himself as one of the best defenders in the Premier League since joining Manchester City from Athletic Club in January 2018. Before then, he was among the most dependable centre-backs in La Liga. And the Spanish international has risen in stature on the international stage in the last few years.
The 28-year-old has turned out 170 times thus far for Manchester City, chipping in with 12 goals and four assists. But Laporte has had to share game time this season and is considering leaving Manchester City. And such a situation has captured the attention of Barcelona ahead of the summer transfer window.
Barcelona will look to sign a left-footed centre-back in the summer transfer window. That is because Xavi Hernandez has often had to utilise Marcos Alonso as a central defender, as all his centre-back options are primarily right-footed. The Catalan giants have thus shown interest in a few players, including Inigo Martinez.
But another player with relations to Athletic Club is on Barcelona’s radar — Aymeric Laporte. The 28-year-old is unsettled at Manchester City and might depart from the Etihad in the summer. And according to Mundo Deportivo, he is prioritising joining Barcelona ahead of the 2023/24 season.
The report also adds that Barcelona and Laporte’s representatives have maintained regular contact in recent weeks. And with the player keen on moving to Spotify Camp Nou, a summer move might be on the cards. But Manchester City will likely charge a premium, considering he has two years left on his contract.
Meanwhile, the Catalan giants are also interested in other Manchester City stars, including Ilkay Gundogan, Rodri, and Kevin De Bruyne. And it will be interesting to see if multiple Manchester City players move to Barcelona this summer.
