Aston Villa considering Denzel Dumfries move

Unai Emery is considering making a sizeable offer for Denzel Dumfries as Inter Milan might make sales to ease their financial troubles.

According to Calciomercatoweb, Denzel Dumfries has emerged as a target for Aston Villa. The Dutch wing-back was the subject of Premier League interest, with several big clubs reportedly interested. Unai Emery could consider making a sizeable offer in the summer as Inter Milan look at sales to offset their financial issues.

Inter Milan continue searching for ideas to stabilise their flickering financial accounts. The San Siro outfit have not found balance and could decide to make sizeable sales in the summer to offset those issues. Two summers ago, Romelu Lukaku and Achraf Hakimi got sold for a similar reason, with the trend likely to repeat in the upcoming window.

Few players in their squad would bring in good money. Those include Andre Onana, Lautaro Martinez and Denzel Dumfries. The Argentine striker already has interest from Premier League sides. There’s also growing admiration for the Dutch full-back.

Dumfries was the subject of a transfer away from Inter Milan in January. Chelsea and Tottenham were reportedly linked with a move for the Serie A right-back after an impressive World Cup. Spurs went ahead with signing Pedro Porro. Chelsea made a move for Malo Gusto, who will arrive in the summer.

Chelsea are reportedly considering a summer move for Dumfries, meaning they have not given up on the chase despite signing Gusto. Now, Aston Villa are seemingly interested in the Serie A right-back as Unai Emery eyes an important signing next summer.

Aston Villa have progressed since the Spanish manager replaced Steven Gerrard. Emery believes the right signings would help elevate the overall quality. Hence, he views someone like Dumfries to come in and improve an important position.

The report claims Aston Villa could offer €35 million plus bonuses, which they believe should suffice the request. Inter were demanding quite a lot compared to that price point but may evaluate their options at the end of the season.

The Serie A giants might consider selling the right-back if a reasonable offer arrives. Clubs will remain wary of paying Inter’s high asking price. The big question is whether Aston Villa stands a chance. Dumfries will have plenty of English suitors playing in Europe now, but the Midlands side could prove a good option.
