Tottenham Hotspur are set to battle it out with Chelsea for the signature of 21-year-old RB Leipzig centre-back Josko Gvardiol.
According to Calciomercato, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Josko Gvardiol ahead of next season. Spurs are ready to challenge Chelsea for the signature of the 21-year-old RB Leipzig defender. Gvardiol has been impressive in the Bundesliga and has attracted a lot of attention from across the globe.
The Croatian centre-back is one of the most sought-after players in the world. He has been performing at a very high level for the past year. And, his performances for the Bundesliga club have not gone unnoticed.
Gvardiol came into the limelight at the FIFA World Cup 2022. He stole the show with his outstanding defensive display at the global event. The 21-year-old defender helped Luka Modric’s Croatia reach the semi-finals of the marquee event.
Gvardiol joined RB Leipzig back in the summer of 2021 from Dinamo Zagreb. It has not taken him long to become their man stay. The Croatian centre-back has made 75 appearances for the Bundesliga club and has eight goal contributions to his name. Meanwhile, he has made 29 appearances in the ongoing season and has two goals to his name.
The 21-year-old has been rock solid in defence, and the interest in him from across Europe is quite understandable. Tottenham Hotspur are one of the clubs that will push for the Croat’s services in the summer.
Antonio Conte has done a decent job at Tottenham. But, he is looking for a bit more defensive stability and has identified Gvardiol as an important transfer target. The Croatia international is a versatile player who can play as a centre-back as well as a left-back. He is strong in one-versus-one situations and is dominant in the air.
His arrival will surely bolster their squad. However, they will have to fight it with Chelsea, who are also keen on having Gvardiol at their disposal. Their new owner has already spent a fortune acquiring young talent from across the globe. And, now he wants to add the 21-year-old to his ranks.
The two Premier League clubs are not alone in their quest for the Croatian centre-back. They will face competition from Real Madrid and Manchester City. It will be interesting to see who comes out on top in this transfer tussle.
